Hell no to Furloughs!

This article is about a protest that took place on the Cal State Fullerton campus back in July. Students were outraged as to the tuition increase that occurred just one month before the semester began, as well as faculty who were then notified about furlough days. Take a look at the video as well.

Why was it that the gym remained open while the library was closed at night?

  1. Interesting video. I saw the students protesting but I had no idea that there were that many out there! The professor speaking is right though. How can the gov't say that our generation is the future and yet we are the first ones that they go after? How can our society ever get out of this recession if students aren't getting the quality education that they need in order to find jobs after they graduate? I think it's sad that it takes this much action for students to be heard by the people who control our futures.

  2. Why WAS the gym open regular hours and the library closed early? I was wondering the same thing. You would think that education would come first..The least they could do is leave the library open until the same time that the Rec Center is, allowing those who need a place to study to do so. After all, they are cutting days of instruction...leaving students to pick up the slack because a full semesters load of material must now be crammed into fewer days. THANKS!

  3. If you're talking about the Rec Center, then I think it stays open because they are also a membership gym to those who aren't enrolled in CSUF, but if it is the athletics gym then I would say that doesn't surprise me because athletes get better treatment anyway. The truth is they really don't mean what they say about students being the future because like all politicians they say one thing and do another.

  4. Im intrested to see with the outcome and the huge amount of students against furlough, how they will react and if there will be continued furlough and cut backs next semester and the years to come. It doesnt make sense to pay employees to work to keep the rec center open, but not for the library. Hope to see a change next semester.

  5. Haha that's really funny/also really inconvenient that the library doesn't stay open as long as the gym. And this tuition thing is getting more than a little out of hand. With tuition fees like these no one will be able to afford to get the proper education they need which ultimately means we are digging outselves even further into a recession in the future.
ps. whats with accumumulative finals. I have to take off all these days of work so I can realearn everything i learned in the semester in one week! Can i catch a break please?!

  6. The gym being open while the library is not seems completly ridiculous. That is basically stating that physical fitness is more important than intellectual well-being. What about all the students that cannot afford to have a computer, internet, or printer at home and need the services at the library to get their schoolwork done? (oh and the lack of finance is to blame on the drastic last-minute fees on has enountered this last semester). But hey, as long as everyone gets their run for the morning in, whose to fret?
